US Vice President JD Vance and President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have repeatedly asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in recent months not to strike Russian oil refineries, according to The Wall Street Journal.
According to sources cited by the publication, Witkoff, Kushner and Vance have asked Zelenskyy over the past several months to refrain from striking Russian oil refineries.
The Wall Street Journal previously reported, citing sources, that the United States had asked Ukraine six times to stop attacks on Russian energy facilities since Trump's meeting with Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September.
US President Donald Trump has demanded that Ukraine immediately halt strikes on Russian oil refineries.
Ukraine's position has been clearly stated by officials: a source familiar with the matter told RBC-Ukraine that the attacks on Russian refineries would continue until an energy ceasefire is in place.
Meanwhile, Trump announced an energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, but both sides said they were unaware of any such agreement.
Ukraine subsequently agreed to an energy ceasefire, but Russia again attacked Ukrainian energy facilities.
Zelenskyy then announced that Ukraine was resuming strikes on Russian oil refineries.
Trump criticized Ukraine's renewed attacks on Russian refineries, calling them "a disgrace."
