The undisputed world heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk, has almost recovered from his injury and is preparing to return to the ring. His team is already working on organizing his next fight, according to The Ring.
About the next fight
According to the boxer's adviser Serhii Lapin, Usyk plans to have his next bout in the first half of 2026. His opponent will be the winner of the Joseph Parker vs. Fabio Wardley fight, which will take place on October 25 in London.
That boxer will become the mandatory challenger for the WBO title, one of the four belts currently held by Usyk. The WBO is next in line for a title defense, but the mandatory bout was postponed due to the Ukrainian's back injury.
Lapin said that Usyk's recovery is going well, and he recently completed his rehabilitation camp and feels great.
"He feels good and in excellent shape," Lapin noted.
About the trilogy with Fury
After two victories over Tyson Fury in 2024, Usyk does not plan a third fight with the Briton. Although fans are calling for a trilogy, the Ukrainian boxer's team believes that the "chapter is already closed."
"Theoretically, it's an interesting option, but for whom? If boxing fans truly support it, then maybe. However, in my opinion, that chapter is already closed," Lapin said.
About a possible fight with Itauma
Recently, 38-year-old Usyk stated that he intends to continue his career for several more years and retire at 41. According to Lapin, the champion could still have up to five more fights ahead.
Earlier, Usyk ruled out a possible bout with the promising 20-year-old British fighter Moses Itauma, but Lapin clarified that such a fight could happen in the future.
"Itauma still needs a serious test before facing a legend. Have we seen him go the full 12-round distance? Has has been in dangerous situations in the ring? My answer is no. At this stage, he doesn't have the tools to beat Usyk," the champion's adviser explained.
