US working on plan to respond to 'national security threat' from Russia
The United States is working on a plan to respond to the "national security threat" posed by Russia's development of anti-satellite weapons, states Mike Turner, Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.
"We met with Jake Sullivan [US National Security Advisor - ed.], and he began to lay out a plan that hopefully would begin to address this [threat to US national security - ed.]," Turner said on NBC News.
According to Turner, this threat is very serious, but he could neither confirm nor deny that it is related to Russia's intentions to launch nuclear weapons into space, as previously reported by the US media.
"The threat is very serious. I am glad that the administration [of the US President - ed.] is beginning to take action," he said.
Threat to US national security
This week, the US House of Representatives Intelligence Committee announced the existence of a serious threat to US "national security" but did not disclose any details. This information was later confirmed by US Presidential Advisor Jake Sullivan.
ABC News, citing its own sources, wrote that this "threat to national security" could be related to Russia's plans to launch nuclear weapons into space to be used against satellites.
Later, CNN learned the details of Russia's development of nuclear space weapons and described the threats.
At the same time, U.S. President Joe Biden reassured Americans that there is no nuclear threat to the United States today.
