On Sunday, US forces used aircraft to attack ISIS camps in Syria. In particular, they used B-52 and F-15 bombers, reports CNN.
According to additional information from a US official, the airstrikes in Syria targeted “ISIS leaders, operatives, and camps” using numerous air force assets, including B-52 bombers, F-15 fighters, and A-10 aircraft.
“The strikes were conducted as part of the ongoing mission to disrupt, degrade, and defeat ISIS, in order to prevent the terrorist group from conducting external operations and to ensure that ISIS does not seek to take advantage of the current central Syria situation to reconstitute in central Syria,” the official said.
He added that the assessment of damage from the fighting is ongoing. According to him, there are no signs of civilian casualties.
The US official also said that CENTCOM, along with allies and partners in the region, will continue to conduct operations to degrade ISIS' operational capabilities “even during this dynamic period in Syria.”
CNN adds that US President Joe Biden also said on Sunday that the United States intends to continue operations to combat ISIS in the country.
Biden welcomed the fall of dictator Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria during an evening address at the White House. He called what is happening a “fundamental act of justice” that will provide Syrians with a historic opportunity.
