US to keep arming Ukraine regardless of peace deal outcome — Axios

The United States will continue to sell weapons to NATO countries for Ukraine, even if negotiations with Russia do not yield the expected results, Axios reports.
An unnamed US official says that even if diplomatic efforts were unsuccessful, US President Donald Trump would continue to sell weapons to NATO countries for Ukraine.
He also stresses that even if Trump's rhetoric sometimes sounds pro-Russian, it is only because the American leader believes that such messages will help to reach an agreement with Russia.
A source in the White House adds that Trump was still angry with Vladimir Putin and was fed up with it
The Axios interlocutor adds that the general opinion in the Trump administration in recent months has been that the US and its allies can weaken the Russian economy in a matter of days.
The senior US official adds that there were more ways to destroy Ukraine, but that if he had to choose sides, Trump would start hitting the Russian economy.
Trump and Putin negotiations
Trump announced a meeting with Putin in Alaska on August 15. The meeting will be hosted by Anchorage, Alaska's largest city. According to CNN, citing sources, Trump and Putin will meet at the Elmendorf-Richardson US military base in the city.
According to the WSJ, Putin may issue an ultimatum to Trump at the meeting – to recognize the occupied territories of Ukraine as Russian in exchange for the withdrawal of Russia's troops from other regions and areas.
At the same time, the leaders of the EU countries and Ukraine have put forward their proposal for a peaceful settlement for the negotiations between the American and Russian leaders.
