On the night of July 8 (Kyiv time), the US carried out a series of strikes on Iran, hitting over 80 different enemy targets. The attack was triggered by Iranian strikes on three commercial vessels carried out on Tuesday, July 7, according to a post by US Central Command (CENTCOM) on social media platform X.
"U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces completed a new round of offensive strikes against Iran, July 7, hitting over 80 targets with precision munitions as an immediate response to Iran's latest attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz," the post states.
CENTCOM specified that the forces struck:
- Iranian air defense systems;
- Xommand and control networks; coastal radar stations;
- Anti-ship missile systems;
- And more than 600 vessels of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
"More than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats in and near the strait to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking international commerce flowing through the international trade corridor," the command explained.
They noted that Iran recently attacked three commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, namely:
- The tanker Al Rekayyat flying the flag of the Marshall Islands;
- The tanker Wedyan flying the flag of Saudi Arabia;
- The tanker Cyprus Prosperity flying the flag of Liberia.
"The unwarranted aggression by Iranian forces is a clear and dangerous violation of the ceasefire and undermines freedom of navigation. CENTCOM forces remain postured and prepared to hold Iran accountable when the agreement is not adhered to or obeyed," CENTCOM concluded.
