The United States has not yet decided whether to support the UN resolution condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine. The document is dedicated to the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, according to the Voice of America.

John Kelley, the US political coordinator of the permanent mission to the UN, told the source about this.

In response to a question from the Voice of America correspondent at the UN, Kelley said that they had not yet made a decision on the matter and that Washington was still deciding, expressing hope that a decision would be made soon.

The American official added that they are currently awaiting a response from the US regarding the vote in support of this resolution.

Kelley also mentioned that they needed to see what instructions they would receive from Washington and expressed hope that those instructions would arrive soon.

UN resolution

The UN resolution on the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion supports Ukraine's territorial integrity and again demands that Russia withdraw its troops.

The draft UN resolution, seen by Reuters, "calls for a de-escalation, an early cessation of hostilities and a peaceful resolution of the war against Ukraine... in line with the UN Charter and international law".

It also "recalls the need for full implementation of its relevant resolutions adopted in response to the aggression against Ukraine."

It is reported that more than 50 countries are co-authors of the document. The resolution marking the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine is expected to be put to a vote in the UN General Assembly on Monday, February 24.

US position on the resolution

It was recently reported that the United States has, for the first time since the start of the war, declined to co-sponsor the draft UN resolution marking the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Reuters noted that in previous years, the US consistently co-sponsored such resolutions in support of a just peace in Ukraine. However, according to a source at the agency, it was unclear when the deadline for supporting the resolution would expire. Therefore, Washington could still change its stance.
