US State Department warns: Coming days will be critical for peace in Ukraine

The US State Department has stated that the next few days will be critical for peace in Ukraine. Washington is awaiting action from Russian President Vladimir Putin, states US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce during a broadcast on News Nation.
Washington has stated that the coming days could be critical for establishing peace in Ukraine.
US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce emphasized that the US is expecting not words, but real steps from Russia — most importantly, an immediate ceasefire.
She commented on the proposal by Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who said that Kyiv is ready to support a truce initiative now, without waiting until May 9.
"If this really is about a commitment to anything regular and actually humanitarian, why wait for ten days? It’s not. What President Trump and what Secretary Rubio – he's noted regularly is that we need to see real action that indicates that these parties in particular, of course, President Putin, is serious about stopping the carnage,” Bruce said.
The State Department stressed that now is not the time for symbolic statements, but a moment of truth to assess the Kremlin’s real intentions.
The US expects Moscow to show a willingness for peace not in words, but through action.
Russian ceasefires
On April 28, the Russian President announced a "ceasefire in the war against Ukraine" from May 8 to 11, allegedly for "humanitarian reasons."
At the same time, the Kremlin began threatening that Russia would "respond" to any violations of the so-called ceasefire if Ukraine failed to comply with it.
This is not the first such ceasefire during the war. Previously, Russia also initiated a truce during the Easter holidays, but ultimately continued attacking Ukrainian military positions, as well as towns and civilians.
