The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), as well as other third countries, are contributing to the continuation of Russia's war against Ukraine and bear responsibility for this, the US Department of State says in a comment to Yonhap News.

According to Yonhap News, the US State Department urged Pyongyang to stop deploying troops, and Russia to cease any support for the North.

"Third countries, like the DPRK, that have perpetuated the Russia-Ukraine war, bear responsibility... We continue to be concerned by the DPRK's direct involvement in the war. The DPRK's military deployment to Russia and any support provided by the Russian Federation to the DPRK in return must end," the US State Department noted.

The US State Department also added that Russia's training of DPRK troops violates United Nations Security Council resolutions, which impose a ban on providing or receiving assistance from Pyongyang.

Deployment of DPRK troops to Russia

On Saturday, April 24, Russia confirmed the participation of North Korean soldiers in the war against Ukraine. At the same time, Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov briefed President Vladimir Putin about the alleged completion of an operation in the Kursk region. In particular, he praised the DPRK troops for "acting side by side with the Russian military."

A few days later, North Korea also confirmed the deployment of troops to Russia.
