The US has extended the deadline for the sale of assets belonging to the sanctioned Russian company Lukoil until September 19, according to the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
Recently, OFAC revealed a document titled Authorizing Certain Transactions for the Negotiation of and Entry Into Contingent Contracts for the Sale of Lukoil International GmbH and Related Maintenance Activities.
The document states that the deadline for such transactions has been extended until the start of the day on September 19, Eastern Time.
However, there is one important condition: the agreements reached must be additionally approved by OFAC.
This decision is of particular importance for Bulgaria, where Lukoil owns significant assets in the oil sector. First and foremost, this includes the oil refinery in Burgas and a network of approximately 500 gas stations.
In April 2026, US authorities had already extended the sanctions exemptions for Lukoil.
In October 2025, US President Donald Trump imposed new sanctions against Russia for the first time during his second term. The restrictions at that time specifically targeted Russia's two largest oil companies—Rosneft and Lukoil.
Moldova suddenly allowed Lukoil gas stations to resume operations.
