The US Senate voted to pass a temporary funding bill, preventing a government shutdown just hours before the deadline, according to CNN.

According to the publication, the vote resulted in 54 senators voting "for" and 46 voting "against." The bill is now set to be sent to US President Donald Trump, who is expected to sign it.

CNN further clarifies that most Democrats who voted in favor of the bill had previously voted "against" it during the final approval.

Despite pressure from the entire Democratic Party, one Democrat and one independent congressman joined the Republicans to ultimately approve the bill.

"Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky was the only Republican to vote against advancing the measure that would fund the government through September 30," CNN reported.

Earlier this week, Trump stated that he did not rule out a government shutdown in the country. He emphasized that if it were to happen, the Democrats would be to blame.
