The United States has intercepted a vessel belonging to Iran's shadow fleet in the Arabian Sea that was attempting to break through the maritime blockade and transport energy resources, according to Reuters.

The vessel in question is Sevan, which was part of a group of 19 ships transporting Iranian oil and gas products to foreign markets.

According to the military, the vessel was intercepted by a US Navy helicopter from the destroyer USS Pinckney. It is currently complying with an order to return to Iran under the escort of US forces.

The US Central Command noted that the shadow fleet vessels are under US Treasury sanctions for their involvement in transporting energy resources, including propane and butane, worth billions of dollars.

Since the beginning of the maritime blockade, 37 vessels have already been forced to change course.

Situation in the Strait of Hormuz

Recall that on April 13, the United States announced the start of a maritime blockade of the Strait of Hormuz after Iran restricted vessel movement in response to US and Israeli strikes.

As part of this strategy, US President Donald Trump ordered the Navy to open fire on ships engaged in mining the strait and did not rule out limited military strikes on Iran.

Against this backdrop, US allies are preparing for potential operations in the region. In particular, Germany is already deploying specialized ships closer to the Strait of Hormuz but plans to participate in demining only after the cessation of hostilities.

Meanwhile, Turkey has expressed readiness to consider participation in clearing mines from the strategic oil route after a possible peace agreement between Iran and the United States.
