US seeks clear definition of Ukraine's peace settlement intentions in talks – Secretary of State

According to Rubio, the United States hopes for constructive talks that will help define Ukraine's position.

"It is important to clearly define Ukraine's intentions regarding a peaceful settlement and also confirm that Ukraine is ready to make tough decisions, just as the Russians are," emphasized the US Secretary of State.

Rubio will be part of the US delegation for negotiations with Ukraine in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Along with him, Donald Trump's Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz are also heading to Saudi Arabia.

Negotiations in Saudi Arabia

Tomorrow, negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations are set to take place in Saudi Arabia. President Zelenskyy would visit Saudi Arabia ahead of these talks, but he will not take part in the delegation meeting.

Zelenskyy announced that the Ukrainian team will be represented by the Head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, and Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa.

The head of state emphasized that Ukraine is fully committed to a constructive approach. Zelenskyy hopes that necessary decisions and steps will be discussed and agreed upon.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump's Envoy Steve Witkoff stated ahead of the meeting that the United States expects "significant progress" in negotiations with Ukraine this week.

"The United States expects significant progress in negotiations with Ukraine this week and hopes to sign an agreement regarding critical minerals," Witkoff noted.

According to an American high-ranking official, the discussion at the meeting of the two delegations will also touch on the exchange of intelligence between the United States and Ukraine.
