US Secretary of State says peace plan should not be imposed on Ukraine from outside
The Ukrainian government should take the lead in ending the war in Ukraine. A peace plan cannot be imposed on the country from the outside, states National Security Advisor to the US President Jake Sullivan.
He noted that any peace initiative that contradicts sovereignty and territorial integrity will not be fair and sustainable.
“I think any peace plan that attends to essentially impose peace on the people of Ukraine that runs across fundamental principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, democracy, and freedom is not just or sustainable,” Sullivan said.
“Peaceful” initiatives from the outside
Politico recalls that since Russian leader Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion in 2022, various initiatives have been put forward to end the war in Ukraine.
In particular, the self-proclaimed “peacekeeping missions” of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, or the proposal of China and Brazil to cease fire and freeze the front line.
A few days earlier, we wrote that the Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance suggested that he might anticipate the peace plan of US presidential candidate Donald Trump. According to him, it may include the creation of a “demilitarized zone” on the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia. At the same time, Ukraine will have to refuse to join NATO.
At the same time, Politico emphasized in its article that the only formula for peace proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy includes the return of all Ukrainian territories seized by Russia.
