US secretary of state and Russian foreign minister may meet in Budapest on October 30

The date of the possible meeting was reported to the publication by an unnamed German official.

The outlet quoted the official as saying, "The foreign ministers of Russia and the US were expected in Budapest on October 30."

According to the Financial Times, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán plans to lay out his plans ahead of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In addition, the possibility of Trump holding talks with European leaders before his potential conversation with the Kremlin head is being discussed.

At the same time, the official clarified that nothing has been confirmed yet.

Rubio–Lavrov meeting

Earlier, CNN reported that the meeting between Lavrov and Rubio, which was supposed to precede the meeting between Trump and Putin, would not take place this week as planned.

In Russia, however, officials stated that Washington and Moscow had not agreed on a meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Minister Sergey Lavrov this week.

According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, "it is impossible to postpone something that has not been agreed upon." He noted that such a meeting would be very significant and, therefore, require preparation.

Trump–Putin meeting

As is known, on October 16, Trump held a phone conversation with Putin, after which he announced that he would meet with the Kremlin leader in Budapest to discuss the possibility of ending this "inglorious" war between Russia and Ukraine.

Following that, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán confirmed that preparations for the Trump–Putin meeting in Budapest had begun.
