US proposes UN resolution equating actions of Ukraine and Russia - FT

The United States calls on Ukraine and the EU to withdraw the UN resolution condemning the Russian invasion. Instead, Washington proposes its own text, which equates Kyiv's actions with those of Moscow, according to Financial Times.
The United States and Europe continue to fight at the UN and the G7 over whether to hold Russia responsible for the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Washington and the EU are proposing opposing UN resolutions for a vote at the General Assembly, and G7 diplomats spent the weekend haggling over whether a joint statement would mention the military aggression of Russia.
According to two unnamed officials, the United States is calling on the EU and Ukraine to withdraw their resolution and is proposing its own text that equates Kyiv's actions with those of Moscow and mourns the tragic loss of life in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The FT adds that the votes on the European and American resolutions will take place after the G7 statement is released as part of a virtual meeting between leaders on Monday afternoon.
US is trying to soften UN resolution
Recently, the media reported that Washington has not yet decided whether to support the UN resolution condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine. In particular, The Washington Post wrote that the administration of White House President Donald Trump asked Kyiv to withdraw the annual UN resolution condemning the war unleashed by Russia.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, said yesterday, February 23, that Ukraine's resolution would be put to a vote at the UN General Assembly.
