The administration of US President Donald Trump is preparing new sanctions against the Russian energy sector, according to Bloomberg.

According to the agency's sources, the White House is trying to increase pressure on Vladimir Putin if he refuses to accept the US-developed peace plan.

According to Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the situation, the new sanctions could be imposed as early as next week. They will affect the shadow fleet and even the trading companies that Russia uses to transport raw materials to buyers.

According to the agency's interlocutors, the peace plan developed by Trump has still not been agreed upon on key issues. Disagreements remain over Donbas, as well as the future of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and frozen Russian assets in Europe. The peace plan also includes the deployment of European troops in Ukraine, which Russia has categorically rejected.

A final decision on new sanctions to pressure Putin has not yet been made and depends on Donald Trump, Bloomberg sources said.

US sanctions against Russia

On November 19, the United States imposed sanctions on a number of Russian companies in the IT industry and several Russians who may be involved in cyberattacks. Several IT companies from other countries were also subject to restrictions.

In October, the US also announced sanctions against Russia's two largest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, as well as 36 of their subsidiaries.

The sanctions are aimed at putting pressure on the Russian energy sector and limiting the revenues that the Kremlin uses to finance the war and support the economy.
