The United States is "ready to intervene" in the course of the Russia-Ukraine war as soon as a real opportunity to reach a peace agreement emerges, says US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to The Guardian.

According to the American diplomat, the United States is still ready to do everything possible to help sign a peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow.

"We’re prepared to play whatever positive role we can to end the war, and that in order to end this war will require something that both Russia and Ukraine can agree to," Rubio stressed.

He made the statement after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on July 23 in Manila.

The Secretary of State publicly acknowledged that previous efforts by Trump's team on this issue had been unsuccessful.

Yet, Washington is ready to continue working if it notices significant changes.

"If conditions and factors have changed to make that possible, we’re ready to go. The president’s committed to that, and every single day, if we identify an opportunity to make a difference in that, we will," Rubio promised.

The American diplomat also noted that Trump considers the Russia-Ukraine war "stupid" and "senseless."

Earlier, we reported what exact demand regarding Ukraine Lavrov made to Rubio during their meeting on July 23.

It seems the Kremlin was interested in Trump's new "prediction" regarding Ukraine and Russia.

It also became known how Rubio assesses the current state of peace efforts regarding Ukraine.
