US plans to send Ukraine another Patriot missile battery - Bloomberg
The US is considering the possibility of sending another Patriot missile battery to Ukraine, reports Bloomberg.
As reported by Bloomberg, the administration of US President Joe Biden is currently exploring the possibility of meeting Ukraine's additional air defense needs.
According to Bloomberg sources, the US aims to send one Patriot battery along with radars. Additionally, European partners of Ukraine are also working on a plan to supply Kyiv with additional air defense systems from their reserves.
The US will likely allocate funds for Patriots from the $61 billion aid package recently approved by the US Congress.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently visited Kyiv, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy requested two more Patriot batteries during their discussions.
A Patriot battery typically includes radars and control stations for identifying, tracking, and targeting enemy weapons, launchers, and support systems.
Patriot for Ukraine
Since the beginning of spring 2024, Russia has intensified its missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian territory, leading to the depletion of Ukraine's air defense systems. President Zelenskyy stated that to close the Ukrainian sky from enemy strikes, 25 Patriot systems with 6-8 batteries each are needed.
Later, Germany initiated a search for air defense systems for Ukraine and announced that it would transfer one Patriot system.
Since then, partners have already supplied Ukraine with missiles for the existing Patriot systems.
