Hundreds of US service members will participate in stabilizing the situation in the Gaza Strip alongside troops from several Middle Eastern countries, according to Reuters and CNN.

According to two senior US officials, 200 American troops will be deployed to Israel to help ensure stability in Gaza.

"U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) is establishing a Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) in Israel to support stabilization efforts for Gaza following the Oct. 8 announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas," a US official told CNN.

At the same time, these US troops will not be stationed inside the Gaza Strip.

The service members possess expertise in transportation, planning, security, logistics, and engineering and will support the operation of the CMCC, which is located in Israel.

According to a White House official, the troops will monitor the implementation of the peace agreement. Some of them are likely to be based in Israel.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed this information in a social media post.

"Up to 200 U.S. personnel, who are already stationed at CENTCOM, will be tasked with monitoring the peace agreement in Israel, and they will work with other international forces on the ground," she wrote on X.

Earlier, a senior US official told CNN that the troops deployed by the United States will join contingents from Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates to conduct oversight.

Ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip

Last week, US President Donald Trump developed a plan to end the war between Israel and Hamas. The plan includes 20 points and envisions the creation of an international Peace Council.

On October 9, Israel and Hamas signed the first phase of the US peace plan.

According to the document, Israel will reduce its military presence to 53% of the Gaza Strip’s territory, while Hamas promises to release all 48 Israeli hostages within 72 hours.

Trump also announced the date when the release of the hostages will begin.
