US outlines possible path to Ukraine-Russia peace deal

At this stage, Ukraine and Russia are unable to reach an agreement and end the war, but the United States knows how to find a way out of the situation, US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said, according to Fox News.
According to Whitaker, Kyiv and Moscow have reached a deadlock following previous attempts to negotiate a peace agreement.
He also noted that there are several reasons for this.
One of them is that both Ukraine and Russia are currently doing everything possible to improve their positions on the battlefield.
The US envoy noted that both sides periodically report new gains on the front.
Another factor blocking peace efforts is active preparation for the crucial winter period.
According to Whitaker, Russia expects to achieve significant results during the winter if its strategy proves successful.
At the same time, the US diplomat believes that a series of separate ceasefire agreements could bring the sides closer to a final peace settlement.
Among the possible areas, he mentioned energy infrastructure, hospitals, and other civilian facilities.

US President Donald Trump recently announced that Ukraine and Russia had allegedly reached an agreement to stop strikes on energy infrastructure.
On September 16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Russia to provide Kyiv with a list of facilities it does not want the Armed Forces of Ukraine to attack during an energy ceasefire.
According to the president, Ukraine is ready to take such a step if it knows that the enemy is also serious about it.
Zelenskyy also said that he expects a specific mechanism that would guarantee Russia's compliance with the terms.
The Kremlin responded positively to Trump's idea of an energy ceasefire.
