US Open boost: Kostyuk and Yastremska climb WTA world rankings

The Women's Tennis Association has published the latest player rankings, updated based on tournaments held from August 11 to 17. Marta Kostyuk and Dayana Yastremska showed the best results among Ukrainian athletes. They reached the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. Here are the changes in the world rankings according to the official Women's Tennis Association website.
What changes occurred in the WTA rankings
Following the last preparatory tournaments before the US Open 2025, Marta Kostyuk and Dayana Yastremska managed to reach the third round at the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati. Both Ukrainians ended their runs after withdrawing from matches against Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, respectively.
The position of Ukraine's number one, Elina Svitolina, remained unchanged. She continues to hold 13th place after exiting in the second round of the same tournament. At the same time, three Ukrainian tennis players in the WTA top 100 showed progress:
- Marta Kostyuk rose one spot to 27th place.
- Dayana Yastremska improved by four positions, becoming the world's 31st-ranked player.
- Yuliia Starodubtseva added ten positions, rising to 63rd place.
Ukrainian Daria Snigur, who will participate in the American Grand Slam qualifying, also improved her ranking, climbing 16 spots to 177th place.
Meanwhile, Oleksandra Oliynykova and Anastasiia Sobolieva dropped 15 and 12 spots, respectively.
In the top ten of the world rankings, there were four changes. Australian Open 2025 winner Madison Keys rose two positions, and Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina returned to the top 10.
Meanwhile, Chinese player Qin Wen Zheng and American Amanda Anisimova dropped in the list.

ATP ranking changes
Due to the unfinished Cincinnati Masters final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, the ATP has not yet updated the official world rankings. However, some movements are visible in the so-called "live ranking."
In particular, Ukraine's number one male player, Vitalii Sachko, who will participate in the US Open qualifying for the first time in two years, rose five spots to 217th place.
Oleh Prykhodko (304th, +3) and Oleksandr Ovcharenko (377th, +1) also improved their positions.
The US Open 2025 qualifying matches are scheduled to start on Monday, August 18, while the main tournament will begin on Sunday, August 24.
