Legendary Federer shocks fans with stunning comeback announcement

The decorated Swiss tennis player Roger Federer announced his participation in a tournament almost three years after his farewell match. He will play at the Shanghai Masters, according to the official Twitter account of the tournament.
What Federer said
In a video message to fans, 44-year-old Federer said he will appear at this year's Rolex Shanghai Masters. He agreed to participate in the celebrity doubles match, which will take place on October 10.
"Hello, this is Roger. I'm really happy to be returning to the Qizhong Stadium in Shanghai for the Rolex Shanghai Masters. Shanghai has always been a special place for me, with great fans and unforgettable memories, and a real love for the game," said the legendary tennis player.
Roger Federer is coming back to Shanghai
The Swiss player has won the Shanghai tournament three times (2006, 2014, 2017) and was runner-up twice (2007, 2010).
Return after three years
Federer's last match before retiring was in September 2022. Partnering with Spaniard Rafael Nadal, he played at the Laver Cup team event, losing 1-2 in sets.
In singles, Federer has not played since 2021, when he lost in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.
