US National Guard readies for possible unrest as presidential election nears
National Guard forces in several states have been put on alert due to the possibility of unrest during the presidential elections, according to CNN.
It is noted that ahead of potential civil unrest related to the presidential elections in Washington, Oregon, and Nevada, the National Guard is on standby.
In Washington and Oregon, instances of ballot drop box arson have previously been recorded. The US Department of Homeland Security has warned that threats to "election infrastructure" remain high.
Oregon Governor Tina Kotek stated on Friday, November 1, that the National Guard is prepared as political leaders call for peaceful protests.
Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo also announced this week that 60 National Guard service members are on standby "in preparation for a safe and smooth Election Day."
