US military destroyed drone and vehicle belonging to Yemeni Houthis
American forces have successfully destroyed a drone and a support vehicle belonging to Yemeni Houthi militants that posed a threat, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
Over the past 24 hours, US Central Command forces have successfully destroyed one Houthi drone and one support vehicle in a terrorist-controlled area of Yemen.
“It was determined these systems presented a clear and imminent threat to US and coalition forces, and merchant vessels in the region. This action was taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for US, coalition, and merchant vessels,” the statement read.
Houthi attacks in Yemen
Since the outbreak of the conflict in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, Houthi militants in Yemen, with armed support from Iran, have begun attacking commercial vessels flying Western flags en route to the Red Sea.
The US and several European countries have deployed forces to the region to protect commercial ships from terrorist attacks and to strike Houthi targets in Yemen.
In late August, American forces destroyed a Houthi missile and drone.
Previously, near the Yemeni city of Hodeidah, terrorists targeted an oil tanker, creating a risk of a fuel spill and marine pollution.
In response, US military forces destroyed two Houthi vessels.
