In the administration of US President Donald Trump, discussions about continuing arms supplies to Ukraine are not taking place. The assistance that had been approved earlier is running out, The New York Times (NYT) reports.

According to Ukraine's supporters in Congress, there are actually no serious discussions in the White House or on Capitol Hill regarding the next weapons package for Ukraine. As sources told The New York Times, the aid for Ukraine approved during the final months of Joe Biden's presidency is coming to an end.

European officials say they have not even received assurances that the US will continue to share intelligence regarding Ukraine. This is a key issue for the Ukrainian military, as intelligence is needed to strike Russian forces and infrastructure.

As NYT writes, when the White House talks about its relationship with Ukraine today, it is usually about what it is receiving - not about what it plans to give.

Negotiations on war in Ukraine

After returning to the White House, Donald Trump took up the negotiation process regarding the settlement of Russia's war against Ukraine. Two rounds of negotiations between Ukraine and the US, as well as between Washington and Moscow, were held in Saudi Arabia.

Following the discussions, Ukraine and Russia agreed to halt strikes on energy infrastructure. However, Moscow continues to attack Ukraine's energy sector. This week, Russian forces attacked a DTEK production facility in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

In recent days, Trump issued an ultimatum to Russian dictator Putin regarding a comprehensive ceasefire and stated that he expects a response from Russia this week.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also warned that the United States might withdraw from the negotiations if no noticeable progress is made.
