US may ease energy sanctions on Russia if peace deal is reached – Reuters

The United States is considering the possibility of easing energy sanctions against Russia if a peace agreement is signed between Moscow and Kyiv, Reuters reports.
The outlet cites two sources as saying that the White House has asked the Treasury Department to explore options for easing energy sanctions ahead of expected talks between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine.
Reuters' sources said that such work would allow the United States to lift sanctions quickly if a peace agreement is reached. However, the US will not lift sanctions without concessions from Russia.
Sources say the Trump administration wants to be able to lift sanctions quickly and avoid delays due to insufficient preparation.
It is worth noting that the sanctions on Russia's energy sector aim to limit the primary source of income for Russia. For example, the West has imposed a price cap on Russian oil at $60 per barrel.
The US may lift sanctions against Russia
Earlier, Reuters reported that the US is preparing a plan to ease sanctions on Russia. This includes restrictions against specific individuals and entities, including some Russian oligarchs.
The White House has asked the State Department and the Department of the Treasury to compile a list of anti-Russian sanctions that could be relaxed.
