US lifts sanctions on airlines linked to Iran's IRGC

The United States has lifted a number of sanctions targeting organizations linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to the US Department of the Treasury.

According to a notice published by the US Department of the Treasury, the United States has lifted certain Iran-related sanctions.
The decision was announced on August 5.
The US removes sanctions from organizations linked to the IRGC, including two aircraft and three airlines.
In particular, the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) removed counterterrorism sanctions from Iraqi carrier Fly Baghdad Airlines and two of its Boeing 737 aircraft.
The airline was sanctioned in January 2024 over allegations that it assisted the IRGC-Quds Force by transporting weapons and fighters to Syria and Lebanon for Hezbollah and Kataib Hezbollah.
The Treasury Department stressed that the move is an administrative action and does not represent a change in US policy toward Iran or the IRGC.
The airline's chief executive remains under US sanctions.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that on July 29, the United States imposed economic sanctions on two Iranian companies and eight oil tankers. The targeted firms included Persian Gulf Marine Insurance Company and HormuzSafe Marine Services Authority.
It was also reported that a proposed agreement between Iran and Oman would give Tehran control over vessels entering the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz.
In addition, US President Donald Trump said that all Middle Eastern waterways closed following the war with Iran would soon reopen. According to him, this could happen either after negotiations or after military action.
