US gas tankers reroute to Europe – FT
Tankers with American liquefied natural gas are changing their routes and heading to European ports instead of the planned destinations. This shift is driven by high gas prices in Europe, the Financial Times reports.
According to the FT, at least seven US tankers initially heading to Africa, Asia, and Colombia have changed course and are headed for European ports.
Alex Froley, an LNG market analyst at ICIS, noted that some ships made several sharp turns in their routes.
He explained that it was unusual to see so many course changes and such apparent shifts.
Gas prices in the European market have surged, allowing traders to secure higher profits and boosting LNG supply to Europe.
Meanwhile, Russia halted gas flows through Ukraine earlier this month. This came after Kyiv suspended the transit of Russian gas to the EU and Moldova.
These developments have prompted Europe to actively seek alternative energy supply sources.
