The governor of Louisiana, who also serves as Trump's special representative for Greenland, will make his first visit to the Danish island, reports the Associated Press.
According to a source, the visit is expected at the end of May. Landry plans to attend the Future Greenland business conference in the capital, Nuuk, but the source did not provide any other information about the envoy's itinerary.
The Louisiana governor will visit Greenland, which, according to US President Donald Trump, Washington should take under its control for security reasons.
Moreover, at the beginning of 2026, Trump announced the imposition of tariffs against eight European countries in order to achieve US control over Greenland. However, after the collapse of global markets, the US leader quickly backed down from this threat.
As is known, in recent months the US president has paid little attention to Greenland, at least publicly. This is partly because he was focused on the war with Iran and devoted time to Venezuela and Cuba.
US and Greenland
In January, journalists from The New York Times learned that the US wants to ban Russia and China from mining minerals in Greenland.
Also in April, the same publication learned that the issue of Greenland was back on the agenda. In particular, the Pentagon is negotiating with Denmark to expand its presence in three zones on the island.
At the beginning of the year, The Economist wrote that Europe is considering three scenarios for protecting the island from possible US actions.
