US estimates preliminary damage from devastating Hurricane Milton
Hurricane Milton, which struck the state of Florida this week, has become the third hurricane in the region in just three months. The current estimated damages are in the tens of billions of dollars, according to US President Joe Biden.
Preliminary estimates suggest that damages from Milton are already nearing $50 billion. The hurricane left more than 3 million people without power, but tens of thousands of utility workers are already working to restore electricity.
"And I want everyone in the impacted areas to know we’re going to do everything we can to let you — help you pick back up the pieces and get back to where you were," the president emphasized.
Biden added that the Army Corps and the National Guard are on the ground, helping to clear debris and restore roadways.
