US officials are disappointed with the conditions Russia has set for a ceasefire with Ukraine for at least 30 days, calling them unfeasible, ABC News reports.

Unnamed US officials told the outlet that Russia’s demands for at least a 30-day ceasefire, outlined in a memorandum, were not surprising but have caused disappointment.

The officials emphasized that some of the points in the memorandum are considered unacceptable by both Ukraine and the administration of US President Donald Trump. According to them, these demands reflect Moscow's attempt to delay meaningful negotiations.

They also noted that although Trump has previously been highly critical of both Ukraine and Russia, in recent days, he has been increasingly distancing himself from the issue.

The outlet also pointed out that despite threats from the US president to impose new sanctions on Russia, there are no signs that the US has taken any steps in that direction.

Russia’s memorandum

On June 2, Ukraine and Russia held the second round of negotiations in Istanbul.

Sources cited by RBC-Ukraine said that Russia handed its memorandum to Ukraine via Türkiye. The document outlined Moscow’s position on a peace agreement with Ukraine and the possibility of a ceasefire.

To halt hostilities, Russia demands either the start of a withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions or a halt to mobilization, the supply of Western aid, and more.
