Europe must provide "the overwhelming share" of aid to Ukraine, while ensuring security is an imperative for NATO countries in Europe, stated US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to The Guardian.

Speaking in Brussels, Hegseth emphasized that "safeguarding European security must be an imperative for European members of NATO" and that Europe "must provide the overwhelming share of future lethal and nonlethal aid to Ukraine."

"This means donating more ammunition and equipment, leveraging comparative advantages, expanding your defense industrial base, and importantly, leveling with your citizens about the threat facing Europe," he said.

Hegseth's European tour

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth began his European tour on February 10, during which he will visit Germany, Belgium, and Poland. Throughout his visits, he plans to discuss the Russia-Ukraine war.

Specifically, the Pentagon chief arrived in Brussels, where he is participating in a meeting of NATO defense ministers and a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, commonly referred to as the Ramstein meeting.

While in Brussels, Hegseth also made a statement regarding Ukraine's return to pre-2014 borders, calling it unrealistic.
