The US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, embarked on a European tour on February 10, during which he will visit Germany, Belgium, and Poland. During his visits, he intends to discuss the Russia-Ukraine war, reports Voice of America.

As reported, in Germany, Gegset will visit the headquarters of the US European Command (USEUCOM) and the US Africa Command (AFRICOM). Additionally, he plans to meet with military personnel and conduct physical training with them.

Following his visit to Germany, the US Defense Secretary will travel to Brussels, where he will participate in a meeting of NATO defense ministers and the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG), or more commonly, the Ramstein format meeting. Gegset plans to discuss the need for increased Alliance defense spending.

He stated in an interview with Fox News that Europe is playing a leading role in Ukraine.

The Ramstein meeting will be the first under the new administration of US President Donald Trump and the first to be held under the leadership of the UK, rather than the US.

Recently, the UK Foreign Office announced that the upcoming meeting will focus on priorities for Ukraine, as the international community continues to coordinate efforts to provide support to Kyiv in its fight against the unlawful invasion of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Ukraine Defense Contact Group is a consortium of around 50 partner countries, established under the leadership of former US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to coordinate support for Ukraine in its battle against Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the nomination of Pete Hegseth for the position of new US Secretary of Defense was approved by the US Senate on January 25. The decisive support in the vote came from Vice President JD Vance.
