US calls on Türkiye to make Iran de-escalate Middle East conflict
The United States is calling on Türkiye and other allies with ties to Iran to help reduce tensions in the Middle East. This statement was made by US Ambassador to Türkiye Jeff Flake.
The American ambassador noted that Washington is trying to prevent possible attacks by Iran and its allies after the assassination of top Hamas and Hezbollah leaders.
"We ask all of our allies that have any relations with Iran to prevail on them to de-escalate, and that includes Türkiye," he said during a roundtable with journalists in Istanbul, where he summarized his diplomatic mission to Türkiye.
Flake said that Turkish diplomats in Washington are actively working to ensure that the situation does not escalate. According to him, they "seem more confident" than the United States, which is also seeking de-escalation.
Since July, the situation in the Middle East has deteriorated quite a bit. After the assassination of the top leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah, the escalation of the conflict became even more serious. This has led to international fears that Iran and its allies will launch a full-scale war against Israel.
The United States and a number of European countries have recently called for peace in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli intelligence is confident that Iran may strike the country in the near future. The United States agrees with this information and is trying to help reduce tensions between the two countries.
Israel, in turn, continues to strengthen its defense infrastructure amid the threat from Iran.
