As early as next week, representatives from the US and Iran may meet in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, to resume peace talks, according to The Wall Street Journal.

According to sources, the US and Iran are working with mediators to draft a one-page, 14-point memorandum that will define the parameters of the negotiations, scheduled to last one month and aimed at ending the conflict.

It is also important to note several other points regarding these negotiations:

  • Iran has, for the first time, expressed a willingness to discuss its nuclear program
  • Both sides are discussing the possibility of moving part of Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium abroad (although the parties’ public statements are contradictory)
  • Details regarding the duration of the suspension of uranium enrichment or the possible removal of enriched uranium from the country remain unclear
  • The working document calls on Iran to ease its control over the Strait of Hormuz
  • The US intends to lift the blockade of Iranian ports during these 30-day negotiations
  • If the negotiations are successful, the one month may be extended by mutual agreement
  • The extent of sanctions relief is a matter of debate, but it could derail the negotiations.

By the way, a few hours ago, US President Donald Trump spoke with reporters again. He stated that he expected to receive word of Iran’s decision regarding the month-long negotiations as early as Friday evening (the day has just ended in the US).

"I'm getting a letter supposedly tonight. So we’ll see how that goes. We’ll find out soon," he said.

Possible agreement between the US and Iran

US Vice President JD Vance met with the Prime Minister of Qatar to discuss peace with Iran. Washington is counting on the support of a country that has previously assisted the United States in this matter.

According to Axios, representatives from the US and Iran are close to signing a one-page memorandum to end the war in the Middle East.

Additionally, sources said that the US leadership’s decision to halt Operation Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz is linked to progress in the negotiations.
