The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has warned airlines flying over Central and parts of South America about potential military activity and GPS signal interference, reports Reuters.

The FAA said the advisories for pilots cover airspace over Mexico, other Central American countries, Ecuador, Colombia, and portions of the eastern Pacific Ocean. The warnings took effect on January 16 and will remain in force for 60 days.

In its advisories, the FAA stressed that potential military activity and navigation disruptions pose risks to civil aviation at all altitudes - from takeoff to landing. Airlines are advised to monitor updates closely and account for possible route deviations.

The FAA warning comes amid heightened regional security tensions. The US previously deployed military forces in the southern Caribbean, carried out an operation against Venezuela, and detained President Nicolás Maduro, increasing friction with regional leaders.

US President Donald Trump has also recently hinted at the possibility of new military actions, including operations against drug cartels in Mexico. Regarding a potential US operation in Colombia, Trump said, “I like it.” He also threatened Cuba, urging the country to make a deal before it’s too late.

Analysts note that such warnings could impact international flights, forcing airlines to reroute or avoid certain airspace areas to ensure passenger safety.
