Unknown gunman opens fire at Brown University in US, leaving people injured

Brown University declared a state of emergency after a shooting on campus that left several people injured, according to Bloomberg.
According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday, December 14, near the Barus & Holley engineering building at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Students were urged to shelter in place and remain inside academic buildings until security checks were completed.
Initial reports of an active shooter were received at 16:22 local time. Students and staff were instructed to lock doors, silence their phones, and hide, following the "Run, Hide, Fight" protocol.
"Several people injured in the area of Brown University," the Providence Police Department said in a post on X.

A spokesperson added that there are currently several people injured.
University officials said that as of the latest update, the suspect had not been detained and details of the incident were still being clarified.
US President Donald Trump said on social media that the FBI was working at the scene, although later reports denied that a suspect had been apprehended.
Emergency services and Providence police are on site, assessing the condition of the injured and securing the campus area. Preliminary information indicates that none of the students are in critical condition, but the exact number of injured and their status remain unknown.
Brown University has around 11,000 students, and Saturday coincided with the second day of final exams for the fall semester, further complicating the situation on campus.
