Unexpected signs of diabetes that may appear on your face

Diabetes can affect the skin in many ways. In the first stages, warning signs may appear on the skin indicating malfunctions in the body, according to The Mirror.
Signs of diabetes that appear on the face
Type 2 diabetes is caused by high blood sugar levels because the body does not produce enough insulin. Many people have this type of diabetes without realizing it because they may not always notice certain symptoms.
Common signs that many people are aware of include a change in urine color and a strong feeling of thirst all the time. Yet, some signs can even appear on the face.
Blood circulates around the veins to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the skin cells. When this process is disrupted due to complications of diabetes, the skin becomes dry and itchy, combined with noticeable redness. This discoloration can be exacerbated by dark spots, rashes, blisters, and sores.
Skin spots can also appear on the faces of people with diabetes, but they are not always a sign of the disease.
Along with a noticeable change in appearance, your skin may also start to change to the touch. It feels harder than usual.
In severe cases, the thickening of the skin can make it difficult to move your face and breathe deeply. Reduced blood flow to the skin, damage to blood vessels and nerves, and the effect of diabetes on collagen in the skin all contribute to changes in the appearance of the face.
How to avoid diabetes
A healthy lifestyle can significantly reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and includes
- losing weight - a weight loss of just 7-10% can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 50%
- daily activity - 30 minutes of brisk walking per day will reduce the risk by almost 30%
- proper nutrition - avoid processed carbohydrates, sugary drinks, and saturated fats. Limit the consumption of red and processed meat
- quitting smoking.
