Underground tunnel crossing border with Belarus discovered in Poland

Polish border guards discovered a tunnel several dozen meters long dug under the Polish-Belarusian border, according to Poland’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Marcin Kierwiński, on Twitter (X).
Poland’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Marcin Kierwiński, reported that border guards from the Podlaskie Border Guard Unit discovered a tunnel under the barrier on the Polish-Belarusian border.
"The tunnel started on the Belarusian side and ended approximately 20 meters from the border on the Polish side," Kierwiński wrote.
He also noted that the Polish-Belarusian border is securely protected thanks to modern electronic systems installed on the border barrier.
Electronic barrier
This summer, Poland completed the construction of a modern electronic barrier along the entire border with Belarus, including river sections. The new infrastructure is part of the EU’s strategy to strengthen the protection of its external borders.
Poland’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Tomasz Siemoniak, noted that all forms of border control — both physical and technical — will remain in place.
According to him, the government allocated 2.6 million zlotys to reinforce border security with Belarus, and over 11,000 servicemen have been deployed to ensure the safety of the border area.
The system includes more than 3,000 cameras and 200 kilometers of detection cables, installed along approximately 199 km from the Observation Center at the headquarters of the Warmian-Masurian Border Unit in Kętrzyn.

Poland closed its border with Belarus
Earlier, Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the country would close its borders with Belarus due to joint Russian-Belarusian military exercises, Zapad-2025.
The exercises were scheduled to take place from September 12 to 16, on Belarusian territory and separately at training grounds in Russia.
