This week, on Tuesday, December 9, the UN Security Council will hold an open meeting on Ukraine, according to APA.

The press service of Slovenia’s permanent mission to the UN stated that the session will begin at 10:00 local time (17:00 Kyiv time).

According to available information, the initiative for the meeting was supported by Denmark, France, the UK, Greece, and South Korea, based on a national request from Slovenia.

Slovenia is chairing the Security Council in December.

US peace plan and UN General Assembly Resolution

In November, the US presented Ukraine with a new peace plan to end the war. The initial document contained 28 points and was favorable to Russia.

For this reason, on November 21, Ukraine’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Khrystyna Haiovyshyn, stated that Ukraine is ready for negotiations to end the war but has red lines that are clear and non-negotiable.

She emphasized that Ukraine will never recognize the occupied territories as Russian, will not agree to limit its right to self-defense, and will not accept restrictions in choosing alliances or blocs.

Haiovyshyn also once again called on the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution for a complete, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire.

After receiving the initial plan, Ukraine and the US have been holding consultations for over two weeks to revise the document and make it more favorable for Kyiv.

Yesterday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov, who led the negotiations, are already on their way to Europe. The president expects a report from them on the peace plan, the US-Russia talks in Moscow, and which points the Americans are willing to modify.

Additionally, it was recently reported that the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution demanding that Russia immediately return all illegally deported Ukrainian children.
