UN sanctions on Iran are back: France, Germany, and UK take action, US responds

The European trio has initiated the reinstatement of UN sanctions against Iran, a move supported by the US, according to the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The decision to restore UN sanctions comes in response to Tehran’s systematic violations of the nuclear agreement and its refusal to meet international obligations.
According to diplomatic sources, the European trio’s action aims to increase pressure on the Iranian authorities and compel them to return to constructive negotiations regarding the nuclear program.
The sanctions that could be reinstated include restrictions on arms transfers, asset freezes, and travel bans for several Iranian officials.
The US has already expressed support for the European partners’ initiative. In particular, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the US backs the European trio’s decision and urges Iran to engage in serious diplomatic negotiations to resolve the nuclear issue.
The US side emphasized that Iran must choose the path of diplomacy and serious dialogue to avoid further international isolation.
It should be noted that in 2015, Iran signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which limited the development of its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. However, in recent years, the International Atomic Energy Agency has repeatedly reported violations of Iran’s commitments.
US strikes on Iran
At the end of June, US forces joined Israel’s operation against Iranian nuclear facilities.
The US targeted three nuclear sites in Iran - Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan - using specialized bunker-buster bombs, as Iran had deeply fortified these facilities underground.
At the time, US President Donald Trump stated that the Iranian nuclear program had been destroyed following the strikes.
