Ukrainian wrestler Iryna Koliadenko lost to Japanese Sakura Motoki in the final of the Olympic competition.

The Ukrainian started the bout more actively, and the Japanese wrestler even received a warning for her passive conduct in the fight. Nevertheless, it was Motoki who took the lead (4:1) with two successful takedowns.

At the beginning of the second period, the Japanese seized the moment and scored two more points. At the equator of the period, she conducted three more effective attacks and won the gold medal. Koliadenko settled for silver.

For the Ukrainian wrestler, the Paris Olympics was the second in her career. At both Games, she finished as a medallist.

Who is Iryna Koliadenko?

Iryna Koliadenko is a native of the Zhytomyr region and a graduate of the Radomyshl Children's and Youth Sports School. In 2019, she achieved her first success at the adult level.

Then she became the vice world champion and finished third at the 2023 World Cup. In return, she won three gold medals at the European Championships (2021, 2023, 2024). She finished the continental competition with a bronze medal once more (2020). She won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

An honorary citizen of Irpin, she survived the Russian occupation of the city in 2022. She is a holder of the Order of Princess Olha of the III class.
