Ukrainian soldiers raised the national flag in the center of Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, according to the 7th Airborne Corps.
In this way, the Ukrainian military refuted the fake statements of Russian propaganda about the alleged capture of the city.
“The world must see that, despite the Kremlin's lies about the ‘capture’ of the city, Ukraine is fighting, will continue to fight, and will not give up its territory to the occupiers,” the caption to the video reads.
Fighting in Pokrovsk
On Monday, December 8, the 7th Corps of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian units had carried out a planned maneuver in the areas of Lisivka and Sukhyi Yar, located south of Myrnohrad.
According to the military, the units were moved to more advantageous defensive lines. This decision was made to save the lives of personnel.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi explained that Ukrainian forces had to retreat from positions located approximately 5-7 km from Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region. According to him, it was impossible to rotate troops in these areas, and the enemy regularly found ways to infiltrate the fortifications, so holding these positions any longer was pointless.
On November 27, Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that in one week, Ukrainian fighters had liberated about 11.5 square kilometers of territory in Pokrovsk, which is more than a third of the city.
On the same day, Russian president Vladimir Putin claimed that Russian troops controlled 70% of Pokrovsk. And on December 1, Russian Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov reported to Putin that the city had been completely occupied.
Earlier, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi said that at one point in the fall, there were no Ukrainian troops left in Pokrovsk.
