Ukrainian top official unveils air defense systems strengthening across country
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov states that Ukraine will soon have new anti-aircraft defenses to protect infrastructure.
"Considering that we're approaching the winter period, air defense issues are on the agenda. The President and all individuals dealing with our country's security during wartime are actively addressing this matter. Additional anti-aircraft missile systems will soon be deployed specifically to preserve our infrastructure," Danilov stated.
He mentions that this specifically concerns energy facilities because, in the event of a temperature drop, it's crucial for the population to receive electricity and remain warm.
"Recalling our situation in February 2022, we were pleading with the world, and the President was appealing every day to close our skies. Today, while we're closing part of the territory, unfortunately, not the entire territory is yet secured. We are doing everything necessary to ensure that the maximum possible portion of our country is defended by air defense systems in the near future. This is crucial for our country, for our citizens, for our settlements because people live there, and they should have decent conditions for their existence," he elaborated.
Russian strikes on the energy system
Last winter, Russian occupants repeatedly attacked the Ukrainian energy system, starting from October 2022 and continuing throughout the season.
These assaults led to power supply issues across Ukraine, with authorities having to implement daily electricity cut-off schedules.
However, Ukraine is actively preparing for potential attacks this winter. Particularly, energy facilities have received three levels of protection against drones and missiles.
