Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk dominates in US Open first-round win

Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk comfortably won her opening match in the US Open main draw. The 24-year-old defeated Australia's Storm Hunter in straight sets.

The match was hardly a contest. Kostyuk won the first set 6:4, while in the second, the Ukrainian dominated her Australian opponent, dropping just one game to win 6:1. The match lasted just 1 hour and 8 minutes.
Kostyuk hit eight aces, committed two double faults, and made 12 unforced errors. She also saved two of three break points.

Commenting on her victory, Marta noted that matches against players who come through qualifying are never easy.
"First of all, I'm very happy to be back to this amazing place. Thank you guys so much for your support. It's always a pleasure to be here. You know, it's never easy to play against qualifier. As you said, they played the whole tournament here, and I'm very happy with the performance today and with how I feel," Kostyuk said.
Marta's next opponent
In the second round of the US Open, Marta Kostyuk will face the winner of the match between Sloane Stephens (USA) and Clara Tauson (Denmark). Notably, Kostyuk had a strong run at the Cincinnati tournament ahead of the US Open, where she lost in the quarterfinals to eventual champion Coco Gauff.
