Ukrainian military instructors will come to train the German army, which for years has shared its own combat experience with Ukraine. Berlin aims to prepare for a possible Russian attack by 2029, stated by the Commander of the German Army, Lieutenant General Christian Freuding, according to Reuters.
Agreement already reached
Ukraine will send its military personnel to German army schools to share the knowledge gained from the real war with Russia. Berlin and Kyiv agreed on this last month.
The first group of instructors will consist of several dozen people and will remain in the country for several weeks.
What they will teach
Ukrainian specialists will train German soldiers in:
-
Artillery operations
-
Engineering solutions on the battlefield
-
Armored operations
-
The use of drones
-
Command and control in modern warfare.
Separately, they will also teach so-called data-driven warfare — combat operations using digital technologies and interconnected systems. According to Freuding, such knowledge cannot be found in any textbook.
Why Berlin is in a hurry
German and other NATO intelligence services warn that Russia could be ready for a major attack on the Alliance as early as 2029.
"That's almost the day after tomorrow. We have no time - the enemy doesn't wait for us to declare we're ready. So we have to use every possibility to prepare," Freuding said.
He also added that Germany was the first to conclude such an agreement with Ukraine, but expects other NATO countries to follow the same path.
Russia denies plans to attack NATO. However, as officials in Berlin note, Moscow said the same thing before it invaded Ukraine.
Ukraine is already sharing its experience — not only with Europe
Ukraine has the world’s most extensive experience countering strike drones. As President Zelenskyy has stated, without this experience, it will be very difficult for the United States and partners in the Middle East to build strong defenses.
Zelenskyy announced he had sent three teams of Shahed specialists to the Middle East — to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Riyadh is negotiating the purchase of Ukrainian interceptor drones and electronic warfare systems. The contract has not yet been signed, but its value could reach millions of dollars.
