Ukrainian school to open in Hungary: Zelenskyy and Orbán discuss launch
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán discussed the opening of a Ukrainian school in Hungary.
"We discussed the opening of a Ukrainian school in Hungary. The first such school. And Mr Prime Minister assured of his support for this project," Zelenskyy says at a press conference in Kyiv.
For his part, Orbán said he was very pleased to hear about Zelenskyy's initiative to open a Ukrainian school in Hungary.
"Now Ukrainian children study in many Hungarian schools, many Hungarian teachers teach Ukrainian children. It seems to me that they work well. We have received information from Ukrainians who are temporarily staying in Hungary that they like it," he says.
Orbán adds that Hungary understands that Ukrainians also want a school with Ukrainian as the language of instruction.
"The Hungarian state will finance this school. It will work and there will be as many schools as needed. It is very important for us that Ukrainians living in Hungary feel at home in Hungary," he stresses.
Orbán's visit to Ukraine
On 2 July, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán arrived in Kyiv for the first time since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He had not visited the Ukrainian capital for 12 years.
Orbán, who is known for his pro-Russian views, promised in an interview on the eve of his visit to take the first step towards establishing peace in Ukraine.
