Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko held a meeting on protecting the energy system from Russian attacks. Measures to safeguard energy facilities against Russian terror will be strengthened, according to a post by the Prime Minister.
"(I) held a coordination meeting on energy system protection with the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Energy, the Commander of the Air Force, the leadership of key energy companies, and the heads of KMVA (Kyiv City Military Administration) and the Kyiv region military administration. We continue to strengthen the protection of energy facilities in coordination with the military,” she wrote.
Svyrydenko noted that the level of challenges is currently extremely serious, requiring full readiness of all elements of the energy system’s defense.
"(We) reviewed the implementation of previous tasks and coordinated efforts to further ensure the protection of our energy system. The main thing now is that everyone delivers the necessary results for our state, our cities, and communities," the Prime Minister added.

Earlier, on the evening of January 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that due to the severe consequences of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, a decision would be made to introduce a state of emergency in the energy sector. More details on what this means for Ukrainians can be found in the RBC-Ukraine report.
Among other measures, Zelenskyy noted that the Ministry of Education and local authorities will need to prepare proposals regarding the educational process during the energy emergency. Additionally, the state of emergency in the energy sector may lead to the cancellation of curfews in certain cities and towns.
