Ukrainian parliament gearing up for changes in mobilization procedures
The Ukrainian Parliament plans to change the mobilization procedure in Ukraine. The corresponding draft law is set to be considered once it's agreed upon with the military, according to a statement by MP and Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Parliament Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, Yehor Cherniev, in an interview with Ukrinform.
He reminds that matters concerning mobilization, demobilization, and other military aspects are overseen by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Simultaneously, as Cherniev notes, legislators only act on the requests of the military and align legislative and legal frameworks accordingly.
"As soon as the final document is agreed upon with the military, it will be submitted to the session hall for voting. This is expected to happen soon," adds Cherniev.
Background information
Earlier, the head of the Servant of the People faction in the Parliament, Davyd Arakhamia, mentioned discussions within the Parliament regarding refining the demobilization procedure.
Consequently, legislators aim to address various issues, including the prolonged deployment of military personnel for two years on the frontlines without rotation.
He stated that a new demobilization document might emerge by the end of 2023.
Moreover, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently instructed the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to create a new comprehensive plan regarding mobilization in Ukraine.
